Camping - How Can You Get The Best From It?

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

As a relatively generic word, camping means different things to different people. It may remind some of hiking through a forest or backpacking in the mountains. Or perhaps, it brings to mind a time when you and your best friend used to set up a tent in the backyard and try to stay out there and awake as long as you could. This usually meant you stayed unless it got too cold or rained. You would have stayed out in the rain, but of course mom said no.

Many kids enjoy going to summer camp so they can hang out with a bunch of other kids and tell ghost stories around the campfire while everyone pretends they are not really scared. You can′t admit you are actually afraid because that’s not cool and they may make fun of you. Yet you are already thinking about the camping gear you may need for next summer, as well as planning your revenge for the year before.

You have talked about it several times, but have never actually done it, so why not now? Pack up the family, hop into an RV camper and head out for a great camping adventure. Planning ahead for such things, such as making sure there are campgrounds or RV services available for your trip can save many headaches later. Also be sure to check and see if reservations are required at any of the places where you are planning to stop.

If you are planning to travel in an RV camper, then plan ahead and find out if any of the locations you plan to camp in have restrictions in place. They may not allow motorized vehicles of any kind, or maybe there is day use only and they have no overnight accommodations available. This type of planning helps to avoid what could be a huge problem for you, not to mention having to deal with “are we there yet?” from the kids. If you have not already decided where you plan to go, then consider a lake campground where there will be swimming, fishing or just relaxing options for everyone. Remember to call and double check on what, if any, restrictions are applicable for the locations you plan on visiting.

Locating A Campground in Your Part Of The Country

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

Have you ever stopped and thought about how much things have changed since you were a kid? Depending on your generation, your mom may not have worked outside the home, while today a two income family is pretty much the norm. Grabbing time to spend with the family is very important, so why not consider a camping trip? While you may prefer room service and a warm beach, your kids will think it is great. They don’t care if you choose a campground in some third world country, or if you had to borrow used camping gear, just as long as you can be there together as a family and have some fun.

Actually there are some really great places to camp. Whether you are traveling by camper or in a new or used RV, there are a few spots worth mentioning and checking out. If you are traveling with kids, then be sure to check into staying at a family campground if possible, as there will be more activities for the kids to enjoy.

Of course you can’t leave out Washington DC, as it proudly serves as the nation’s capital. If you can’t imagine being able to find a campground in this area, then think again. Rock Creek Park is a gorgeous area to pitch a tent. If it happens to be spring, then be prepared to be awed by the Cherry blossoms. Another good point to this area is that many of the attractions are free. Learning about camping and about our country simultaneously can be a great adventure for kids.
